Working House Fire on Old State Road

Shortly before 2:00am on Sunday, November 6th, Trappe Fire Company, along with an engine from Collegeville and two engines from the Royersford Fire Department, were dispatched to a dwelling fire at 595 Old State Road in Upper Providence Township.  The caller stated that the house was filling with smoke, so she and her children evacuated the house.  The fire marshal (FM-68) was one of the first to arrive and reported a working fire in the rear of the house.  A subsequent report mentioned heavy fire and smoke on the first and second floors.  Engine 98 (Royersford) was the first apparatus on the scene and laid in from the hydrant west of the driveway. Engine 98-2 arrived a short time later.  Engine 34 (Collegeville) pumped the hydrant west of the driveway while Trappe's engine laid in from a hydrant east of the driveway.  Command instructed the first-in unit to lead off with a 2 1/2" line for an aggressive attack.  Ladder 98 was specially-called to establish ladder pipe operations.  Rescue 86 (Skippack) responded as the FAST team.    Limerick and Perkiomen fire companies also assisted at the scene.  The fire was declared under control about an hour later.

For the second time in two days, the Royersford Fire Department was called upon for mutual aid to a neighboring town.  Fire consumed the Appliance Alliance at Bridge and Prospect Streets in Phoenixville on Sunday, October 30th.  It spread to neighboring apartments and caused smoke damage to a nearby auto parts store.  Ladder 98 initially arrived on the scene, but the third alarm also brought Engine 98 to assist.  Fire marshals suspect the source of the blaze to have come from a 2nd-floor electrical panel.
